Bahrain continued their impressive medal haul at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, with world champion Winfred Yavi completing a sensational golden double yesterday.

A day after winning gold in the women's 1,500m Asiad, Winfred captured gold in the women's 3,000m steeplechase.

The Asian Games record she clocked during her win made it even more special. It was also a triumph for Musa Isah, Kemi Adekoya, Abbas Yusuf Abbas, and Salwa Eid Naser's mixed 4x400m relay team.

On the fourth day of track and field events at Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, Bahrain won two gold medals.

As part of his three-medal haul, Edidiong Odiong also earned a bronze medal. A total of 11 medals have so far been won by the Kingdom's delegation at Hangzhou, including six golds, one silver, and four bronzes.

In terms of gold medals, that was enough to propel them to 10th place, while in terms of total medals, they ranked 16th.

At this year's Asian Games, Bahrain also remained the highest-ranked Arab nation.

Winfred began the women's 3,000m steeplechase final at the back of the seven-runner group but made her move after the first water jump.

Midway through, Winfred led with three others following closely behind her, including fellow Bahraini Tigest Mekonen and Indians Priti Chaudhary and Parul Chaudhary.

Winfred was under pressure from Chaudhary on the penultimate lap, but showed her class and pulled away.

In nine minutes 18.28 seconds, Winfred finished all alone with a big gap.
