A VERDICT date has been set in the trial of four people accused of selling crystal meth, locally known as shabu.
Two Bahraini men, a Pakistani man and an Egyptian woman – aged between 30 and 55 – appeared at the High Criminal Court where they earlier denied the charges.
One of the Bahrainis, a 55-year-old sales manager, was arrested outside his home in Saddad on September 3 following a tip-off about his illegal business.
He then helped the police apprehend the Pakistani drug dealer when the latter agreed to sell him BD1,000 worth of the drugs.
However, a lawyer for a 30-year-old Bahraini co-defendant said his client was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
“My client went to help transport the Pakistani man,” defence lawyer Abdulaziz Al Musa told a leading judge.
“He did not know the other man had drugs on him and he cannot be found guilty only based on intention to transport the drugs.”
The Egyptian woman said she did not sell drugs but smoked shabu to treat her “bad mood”.
The trial has been adjourned until November 30 for a ruling.
