Bahrain Celebrates International Day Against Violence And Bullying At School

The UNESCO-associated schools in Bahrain celebrated the International Day against Violence and Bullying at School Including Cyberbullying with online awareness programs and activities for teachers, students and parents, ranging from lectures, seminars, short films, competitions, poster designs and instructional guides.

The National Coordinator in Bahrain Lubna  Selaibeekh said the celebration calls on countries to strengthen their efforts to reduce violence and school bullying with a focus on tackling cyberbullying in conjunction with the spread of the coronavirus that necessitated distance education.

The situation demands the increase of awareness among students and parents of the tools necessary to protect children and educate them about the dangers of cyberbullying in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development, she said.

Such commitment is in line with the goal of ensuring quality, equitable and comprehensive education and to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all in a safe environment suitable for education as well as promoting peace and inclusive societies, she added.

UNESCO Member States have declared the first Thursday of November of every year, the International Day against Violence and Bullying at School Including Cyberbullying, recognising that school-related violence in all its forms is an infringement of children and adolescents’ rights to education and to health and well-being. It calls for the strengthening of partnerships and initiatives that accelerate progress to prevent and eliminate violence and bullying at school including cyberbullying.
