Mosques across Bahrain will be re-opened for Asr (afternoon) prayers starting today, the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments has said.

The re-opening is based on the decision of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs regarding the gradual resumption of collective prayers amid the full application of preventive measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and on the recommendations of the National taskforce for Combating coronavirus.

The ministry said that it would work closely with the Sunni and Jaafari endowments to ensure the full application of the preventive measures and the safety of the worshippers.

With today’s decision, mosques in Bahrain will now be open for Fajr (Dawn), Dhuhr (Noon) and Asr prayers.

Congregational and Friday prayers were suspended in Bahrain on March 28 after mosques were shut to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

Fajr prayers were allowed back on August 28 and Dhuhr on November 1.

Physically-able Muslims are required to perform five prayers daily in mosques – Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghreb (Sunset) and Isha (Evening).
